Digital gives us the opportunity to make good graphic novels mainstream.
Intelligent graphic novels for adults are difficult for ordinary people to come across. We believe that through digital distribution on the iPad and similar devices we can make quality material more easily available to millions of people who would never think of visiting the graphic novel section of a bookstore, let alone visit a comic shop.
To be truly successful though, we believe that the reading experience must be recognized as a key factor in the acceptance of graphic novels on tablets and mobile devices. We have been dismayed by some of the software out there which clearly doesn’t care about the reader’s user experience. What we make is a world away from a dodgy PDF squinted at on a computer monitor.
Our apps include Page and Panel Mode (where you can view the whole page, or a panel at a time) and includes super fast swiping, pixel per second panel movement, control over transitions, and control over the size of the panel displayed in Panel Mode. We also allow for the inclusion of audio or video commentaries by the writer and artist. We’ve really sweated the small stuff to exploit the features of the iPad and other devices, and we believe we’ve created the best platform for reading graphic novels out there.
We publish our own line of graphic novels (and have just released The Certified Hunt Emerson in a deluxe digital edition for the iPad) and will also work with great publishers to assist them into getting their books onto the iPad in a format they can truly be proud of.
