Panel Nine, will be the main sponsor of this year’s Comica Comiket event, to be held at Central St. Martins College of Art & Design near Kings Cross. At the show we will be formally announcing the forthcoming launch of SEQUENTIAL, a graphic novel and sequential art platform with a difference… Here’s a teaser… more details at Comica! And don’t forget to sign-up to the Panel Nine newsletter to get special previews…
Terry Wiley has been described by Rich Johnston of popular comics website Bleeding Cool as a ‘true comic book genius’ and by Richard Bruton of Forbidden Planet International as an ‘unheralded star’. His 90s work on Sleaze Castle is admired by the British comics cognoscenti, but his work has yet to break out. ‘We hope to help change that,’ says Russell Willis, publisher at Panel Nine. ‘VerityFair is a unique but superbly accessible tale that has the pull of a soap opera whilst mining issues of psychological depth, and stars a mostly irrepressible fortysomething actress-cum-fast food worker – possibly the most well-rounded female character in comics today.’ The iPad ‘deluxe digital graphic novel’ contains an 80-page VerityFair story, audio commentaries on nearly every page, production sketches, rare extra strips and illustrations, and an interview with the author.
Due out in March, it will be priced at just $4.99.
A classic romance strip from ILYA is guaranteed to break your heart… We review My Friend Dahmer, Nao of Brown and July Diary, and present a special sampler of the iPad version of The Phoenix. News, opinion and more. Oh, and it’s FREE.
The fully-featured iPad version is here, and the PDF version here. Previous issues included work from Alan Moore, Eddie Campbell, David Lloyd, PJ Holden amongst others. What are you waiting for?
… is out! Developed by Panel Nine as a Newsstand app, users can subscribe and have issues automatically delivered each week to their iPad. The app includes our unique Contents page for navigation, multiple bookmarks, Panel Mode (for viewing the comic panel by panel), super-fast swiping, “floating” double-page spreads, landscape view for double-page spreads, additional content through our “Something Cool” button and the attention to detail and intuitive use that Panel Nine is known for. Compared side-by-side with digital comics from Comixology, iVerse or iBooks, the Panel Nine platform has more features, more skilfully implemented, and is the clear winner in terms of user experience.
Unlike some Newsstand apps, subscribing is super simple and if you subscribe before midnight on January 10th, you can get six months, 26 issues, for only £9.99 / $13.99. INSANE! After that, you can get a free 1-month trial when you subscribe at the normal price…
And let’s not forget the incredible strips: Daniel Hartwell and Neil Cameron’s “Pirates of Pangea”, James Turner’s “Star Cat”, James Smart’s “Bunny vs Monkey”, Adam Murphy’s “Corpse Talk”, Morag Lewis and Paul Duffield’s “Scaredy Cat” and Nick Abadzis’ “Cora’s Breakfast”. And there’s lots more!
The reaction to the app has been overwhelmingly positive and on its launch it went to No.1 in the Children’s Magazine section of Newsstand, beating out Doctor Who, CBeebies, Barbie and Pokemon!
